So, I was unemployed for two months after graduation. I had been volunteering at several ESL establishments and now, finally, I’m getting paid! I have two jobs, but I don’t really work that much. The first one is at Nomen Global. It’s a private English school. I teach two classes, both Level 5: Grammar and Integrated Skills. My other employer is the Provo School District. They hired me to handle this new project that Blendtec, this factory in Orem, has commissioned the ESL department to do. They want to start an ESL class in their factory for their workers. It will be a beginners class of about 20 students. I have to plan a curriculum that is related to their workplace environment. I don’t think it should be too hard. I’m having fun at both places! I never thought that I would be comfortable standing in front of a classroom teaching, but I am now! And I love it!

Title: Long-winded
Description: Need I say more?
Yours truly,
Sharn
Leave a CommentSo there is good news, even though I (Eric) went snowboarding on Wednesday, I didn’t do anything further to my shoulder. Hopefully, my shoulder will continue to heal so that I can continue to go. The weather turned this morning and it’s now pretty cold but the snow is coming down beautifully. If I could, I definitely go back tomorrow. Unfortuneately, at $45 a day pass, I just don’t have the money to go. A group of friends are going tomorrow courtesy of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Sharn and I went last year with them and after that experience, she promised me she’d never go again. So sadly, whenever I go to the slopes, I have to go by myself (anyone out there who’s a beginner snowboarder that what to go with me?). If the weather holds out (i.e. doesn’t warm up too much, too fast), the snow will last for a while longer and I can continue to go even though my class here at BYU will be over. I paid for a season’s pass and I’m going to get my money’s worth! Anyway, here’s another photo I took this past week (I’ll try and take more this coming week)
So it’s a couple hours after I went snowboarding and my shoulder doesn’t hurt…that much. My hand is feeling kind of tingly. I’m hoping that I didn’t do anything to it. I followed the doctor’s orders as best I could. I mean, I didn’t deliberately fall =) I am proud to say that I managed to protect my shoulder on most of my falls (there weren’t that many). Here’s a photo that I took with my phone while I was out today.
I’ll have to blog about my instructor sometime, the crazy Indian who speaks Mandarin, Charan! If you ever go to the Sundance Resort here in Utah and want to take a beginner snowboard class, try and get him as your instructor. Out of 5 stars, he definitely deserves 5 and a half (seriously, he’s that good). Anyway, we’ll have to see if later on I can’t move my arm because that’s what happened three weeks ago when I separated my shoulder.
Leave a CommentSo I (Eric) decided that since this is my senior year at BYU and it’s almost a given that we won’t be back in Utah after we’ve graduated that I’d take a snowboarding class. I mean, everyone says Utah has the “Greatest Snow on Earth”…I’m still not sold on that cause I’ve seen a lot of icy snow and not much powder in my time here. Anyway, so I’m taking this class and I’m having a great time. Before I have to enter the “real” world, it’s a lot of fun to learn something new. I have to say, rolling and smacking your head a few times cause an edge got caught can be really painful. But it’s all part of the experience right? The only problem is if you manage to strain your rotator cuff muscles enough that you seperate your shoulder and have to go to phyiscal therapy and the doctor. That stinks. The most annoying thing is that it didn’t hurt till a lot later that night. Then again, it may have been cause my head was ringing after that fall…who knows.
It’s been 3 weeks since I injured myself now, and the doctor says I can go and do anything I want to. The physical therapist says I can go snowboarding, I just have to take it easy and not fall. Falling I think is one of those things that sometimes is really out of your control. I’m going to go today cause I’ve now missed two classes (which I still have to make up…probably…my teacher’s really chill about it, so I might not have to). Hopefully I don’t fall too hard and injure my shoulder further. My next entry will either say “I survived” or “I’ve torn my shoulder and I need surgery”. Here’s praying for the first one.

It’s our second real valentine’s day together. Even though we’ve had four together thus far, it’s only the second one that we’ve really spent together! The first one (2004) we’d only barely started seeing each other and so valentine’s day was spent with a group of friends. Second one together (2005), I was staying with my old roommate for a few days and it so happened that it overlapped with valentine’s day. So we had a little friendly valentine’s day dinner with her – 5 buck pizza shaped in a heart! Then last year (2006) we spent it together privately for the first time, also first time since we’d been married. This year was fun. We decided to start a little tradition with our Valentine’s Day celebrations. One year someone will arrange the meal while the other prepares the gift and the next year we switched. Last year I made us dinner (just spaghetti with meat sauce) and Eric bought me a gift (my wedding band). This year, Eric made us pan-fried Mahi-Mahi on a bed of bak choy sauteed with macadamia nuts, and top with stir-fried onions with a hint of lemon. Ooh! It was heavenly! I haven’t had good fish like that in a long time! I only bought him a bottle of sparkling cider. Looks like Eric scored two years in a row! It was really fun. Valentine’s Day may be a day commercialized by chocolates and Hallmark cards, but I like it all the same! Of course they always say that love should be celebrated everyday of our lives and not just this day. True, true. But something like Valentine’s Day to hype up the romance is fine too!
Leave a CommentSo I (Eric) became officially old this year…and I’m really feeling it. So to reminise and feel like I’m only 23, I looked at the photos that were taken on my 23rd birthday. Considering that this is a new blog and I’m still playing aroudn with the different options, I figured I’d try and insert a picture from Gallery2. Let’s not even go into the heartache and pain that trying to integrate these two programs has caused me. It’s really not as easy as they say. I know, I know, I should have used a CMS instead of a bog and a gallery, but my webhosting service only has Joomla…and that was really disappointing to use after having used Drupal (let’s not go into that now, maybe that’ll be the topic of another blog). So this is the result of my efforts.

Welcome to our blog…we’ve finally gotten around to making a blog. This is to let everyone know what’s happening in our life. If you’re lucky, we’ll get around to updating this regularly…but no promises! Honestly though, we’re hoping to do better with our blog than we did with our website =)

You laugh because I'm different. I laugh because I farted.
