KA!… and Vegas while we’re at it.

So this weekend we drove down to Vegas with our friends, neighbors, and hangout-buddies, Chris and Katrina Nye. The main intention was to go see KA. And also eat some good food and just escape the drills of life in Provo. So KA was amazing. Simply amazing. A must-see in your lifetime.
We also had some fun at the KA merchandise store.
Well, what is Vegas without the buffets, right? We certainly ate a lot in Vegas, but we sure walked it all off (I hope).
There was always crab, lobster, jumbo shrimp and oysters. But, I’ve decided that buffets in Vegas are not about quality, but about quantity. So the next time I’m in Vegas, I’ll pass on the buffets. Anyhow, Eric seemed to enjoy the abundance of seafood that we don’t get in Utah!
We also had fun with the lions…
…. and tigers and bears! Oh my! Ok, not quite. Moreso about the Nyes. Hehe~ Katrina got sick. But she was a trooper! And can definitely be naughty! (prrr…)
And of course we all know Eric….
Another highlight of our trip was the M&M store! Love that place! M-azing how much M&M merchandise they can come up with. Basically anything you can think of, they have! But the pillows were my favorite!
Sharn and I went with our friends Chris and Katrina to Las Vegas for the weekend. We had a great time (even though Katrina was a bit sick) and saw the Cirque du Soleil show, KA that was playing at the MGM Grand. I’m sure that Sharn or Katrina will blog about KA, so I’ll leave that to them. The first time I went to Vegas, we didn’t do anything but walk the Strip, this time we got to go to yum cha, Makino’s Sushi Buffet, the Village Seafood Buffet at the Rio (where Prince is playing along with the Chippendales show…), and good ole’ Sam Woo.
The other highlight was going to the M&M store. Mmmmm….who guessed that they had so many different colors of M&M’s and that there was so much M&M merchandise! They have a little tour/museum of how they make M&M’s and also a pretty cool 3D movie “I lost my ‘M’ in Las Vegas’ starring Red and Yellow. In the middle of the tour/museum, there are some water sprays that arch overhead, while no one was looking (I didn’t do this deliberately), I stuck my finger in the stream of water and got a bunch of people wet, including Sharn and myself. Everyone freaked out and were waiting for it to happen again…oops =)
Anyway, we had a great time and we’re sad to be back in Provo, but there’s only a month left till the end of school.
Leave a CommentSharn and I got to go to Olympic Park in Park City on Saturday thanks to Ernst and Young (EY). I got to go down the Xtreme zipline there which is the world’s steepest with a 435-foot vertical drop and length of 1,454 feet at a 33 percent grade. They say you get up to 55miles/hour on it (honestly, I didn’t think that it felt that fast). Then we both got to have a really nice dinner of roast and salmon. As soon as I get around to it, I’ll post some photos!
Leave a CommentSo I’ve been checking out other people’s computers to see what operating systems they’re using (no, I’m not stalking people) and I decided that eye candy (pretty looks) was what I wanted. So the Mac really is the best overall I think. It’s got the eye candy, the functionality, and the support that I wanted. But to run it, I need a Mac…and I won’t settle for anything less than a Mac Book Pro…which is about $2000 more than I have.
Last week though, Novell came to school and presented to ASM (the nerd club…Association for Systems Management). They demoed the latest version of Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED), their own customized flavor of Linux. I was pretty impressed with what they had and so thought that I’d settle and install it for a week. I have to say the pros are: solid and well-tested, very impressive eye candy, enough support and development to have all the necessary business apps working. The cons: Because of the testing and the wanted stability, it’s just as hard to customize as Windows is in a corporate environment; and you can’t play games (the most important of course). So ultimately, even though I was impressed with what Novell has done with SLED, I’m extremely frustrated with the difficulty I experienced in customizing it. So I just deleted the partition (the part of the hard drive it was on) instead of uninstalling…and XP wouldln’t start up =(
So….to make an even longer story not so long, I had to install Windows Vista and that’s what I’m using right now. Besides the nicer look and the dock on the side (which is pretty much copied from Mac OS X), there’s no reason to use Vista instead of XP.
Leave a CommentI’ve discovered the mythical underwear tree at Sundance. Rumors abounded about this tree that exists in every ski/snowboard resort but I’ve never seen one before this year. The tree moves but the constant is the underwear in it. So far this year, I’ve seen bras, tightey whiteys, and panties.
What makes people throw away their underwear? I have no idea, but I certainly hope that they didn’t take them off on the ski lift. It really makes you wonder about the type of people that go and hit the slopes. Maybe they’ve just hit their heads a few too many times, I know that’s why I bought a helmet =) So the next time that you’re out on the slopes, keep an eye out for the mythical underwear tree, you’ll never know what you’ll see in it!
I’ve included a photo that I took of the underwear tree and a stylized version just in case cause it’s kind of hard to see the underwear in the original.
1 CommentOkay, so even though I use a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop, deep down I really want a 17 inch MacBookPro. After seeing everyone’s experience with Vista (I’ll be honest, I’m still debating whether or not to upgrade…the DVD’s just sitting here) and my own experience with PC’s in general, I’m ready to switch back. I remember the good ole’ days when I had an Apple IIe and then the Mac Classic. Besides, look at these ads! Who wouldn’t want a Mac! Now I just need to find US$2000…
Leave a CommentFor those who watched American Idol, can I just say that after watching tonight’s episode, I am in shock. How in the world did Sanjaya make it into the finals and Sundance and Jared not?!? For the past few weeks, when did Sanjaya once give a good performance! Not once I say!! NOT once!! And both Sundance and Jared have given smashing performances!! As for Antonella, well good riddance to her. Snobbish and can’t sing. But Sabrina?!! Sabrina?! Voted off over Haley?? Have the American audience gone deaf and blind?!
DEAF AND BLIND I SAY!!
1 CommentGotta love what can happen to a harmless game in the hands of the Japanese…
Leave a CommentSo Sharn says I’m long-winded, so here’s a shorter post. The Ninja Warrior challenge is crazy! Sharn and I really like it (Japanese people do the best shows) just cause of the things these people do. The video’s long (9min) but it’s well worth it…only 2 people since the competition started in 1998 have actually finished and this guy’s one of them.
Yes, yes. I’m contributing to society. Whoopee! I love my job. I love teaching! I’m very dedicated to what I do. Ask Eric. I spend a whole afternoon planning my lesson for the next day, even though they only pay me an extra hour for every six hours I teach. But what can I say? I love my students and I want them to enjoy my lesson as well as learn something from it!
I’m the newbie. Not all the teachers know me, needless to say the administrative staff.
So today, this guy, one of their admin staff, knocks on my classroom door. And I say, “Come on in!”
And this six feet tall, lean, middle age white guy walks in. Takes a look around the class full of Koreans, Japanese, Latin Americans, Chinese, and others not white like him. He sees me standing in front of the classroom armed with a whiteboard marker in one hand and a textbook in the other and exclaimed shockingly, “You guys don’t have a teacher?!?!”
Slightly offended, I walked up to him, all the while controlling my outburst lest I lose my job of two weeks and replied, rather sarcastically, “I’m sorry I don’t look like a teacher!” And took whatever he came to give me, out of his hands.
There you go, the one track mind of another white guy.

You laugh because I'm different. I laugh because I farted.
