Hectic…Hectic

Poor Eric. He’s had to write a paper a day this past week. Well, he’s trying to finish up his American Heritage Independent Study. Don’t say I didn’t warn him. This semester has been pretty hectic, but leaving everything to the last minute is a sure killer! He also has Bio 100 Independent Study to finish up! I really hope he gets done before this week is up! He has to graduate! If he doesn’t, he can’t start work! We can’t live on my meagre wage! Argh!! So, Eric, if you’re reading this, YOU CAN DO IT!!! WORK IT!!

As for me, life has been pretty busy. I teach in the mornings 9-12:30 then in the evenings 6-9:30. I’m probably gonna take up another class, where I’ll then start at 4 and go through 9:30. I feel bad for Eric. I haven’t cooked at all since I started working! We’ve had to eat out a lot and Eric’s been having a lot of cold cereal. =) Well, it’s not gonna get better. Once Eric starts working full time, I wonder when I’ll see him….

Amidst all this busy crazy stuff trying to work and pay the bills, I’m glad I have to light that lets me know life indeed has a purpose.

Now and Later On…

06 Apr 2007 03:52 pm | Category: Birthday, Eric, Stupid

I was talking to my mom the other day and she mentioned how my dad had given her a photo album of photos of them from back in the day and now for her birthday. It got me thinking as to how I’m going to be 30 years from now. Here’s what I came up with:

Now:

Bruce

30 Years in the future:

Shrek

Algorithm March in Provo

02 Apr 2007 09:58 pm | Category: Japan, Stupid, TV

Yay! Sharn’s letting me post us doing the Algorithm March (the original can be found here)! Too bad for the other people in the video, but I have no shame. I have to admit though that the original is still the best.

Pitagora Suichhi (Pythagoras Switch)

The other week, we went with the Nye’s over to hang out with Rebecca, Marcus, and Matthias. We made a bunch of music videos and performed the Algorithm March. Sharn wouldn’t let me put those up cause she’s in them =) so I’ve put up the Algorithm Exercises that Katrina, Chris, Marcus, and I did!

(You can see the original on YouTube here).

FYI -The Algorithm March and Exercises come from a kids show in Japan…see Wikipedia.

Google TiSP

01 Apr 2007 09:18 pm | Category: Stupid, Tech

For those non-tech geeks out there, Google announced today a free in-home wireless broadband service, TiSP (Toilet Internet Service Provider). Basically, you string a connection in through the sewage system and up through the toilet…Happy April Fool’s! I’m amazed at the time and effort they put in though!

Getting my wisdom teeth out is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so of course I have to blog about it! Please proceed only if you have the stomach for it! ….

Gosh!! It’s really not that gory!!

So, my upper wisdom teeth were growing diagonally inwards and my lower ones were growing horizontally. Both sets pushing on my regular teeth, especially the upper ones because they were starting to break through my gums. I’ve had orthodontic work done before and I didn’t want my wisdom teeth to ruin my regular teeth, so I decided to have them removed. Better to spend a grand now than to spend a few grand to get my teeth fixed in the future.

I was wide awake for the whole process. Felt every thug and pull and grobe in my mouth. I had laughing gas, so that helped a little, but not much. I was still very conscious of what was happening! Even though I didn’t actually see the inside of my mouth, I had little glimpses of it through the reflection of dentist’s glasses. Not a very pretty sight. I was also aware of the amount of blood oozing out from my gums because the dental assistant was actively sucking the blood clean. At one point it even splattered on my cheeks. I could also see my blood stains on their white plastic gloves and the dental equipment. Anyhow, the whole surgery only took about an hour. I must say I was proud of myself. (There was a guy right before me that had his wisdom teeth out too. I definitely looked more alive than he did!)

For the rest of the day, all I ate was mango pudding and I also slept a ton. I didn’t feel much pain because the anesthesia hadn’t worn off. I’d actually fell asleep with the gauze in my mouth and when I woke up, it was completely soaked with blood. There was even blood in my teeth. But that really help because I’d left my wounds alone to clot. If I was awake, I would have changed my gauze every 5 minutes, which is bad for the blood clotting. As the anesthesia wore off, pain killers were my best friend.

I was well enough to watch Casino Royale with the Nyes that evening. But after that, took some pain killers, and they knocked my out for the night…. except, not the whole night. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling pain in my left side. I tried to wake Eric up to get me some pain killers, but my effort was in vain. Not only did he not wake up, he accidentally hit me on my face! So, I had to get myself some pain killers. As dawn drew near, I woke up again, this time feeling soreness on my right cheek. I tried to wake Eric up again to get me some ice packs, and this time he actually responded. Good job!

The next day I did feel better. I could not taste as much blood as I did the first day. So I ate pudding and even mash potatoes. I could still feel pain though, so I decided to take the Lortab my dentist has prescribed. He warned me that not many people take to this medicine very well. I found out I was one of them. About an hour after taking Lortab, out came my mash potatoes. Gross! So, I stuck to ibuprofen.

Later that evening, I felt well enough to go out to dinner with some friends. We went to a Chinese buffet. I didn’t eat a lot, but I could eat some food there. My face was still swollen. Rendy said I looked like a cartoon character because my cheeks were so puffed up.

Anyhow, I slept all the way through my second night.

My left cheek is still swollen. I look like a chipmunk hiding my nuts only in one side of my mouth!

So, after 48 hours, I’m much better than when I started. But all in all, I handled this pretty well!

And for those that read my whole entry! Good job!!

Wisdom Teeth

01 Apr 2007 08:27 am | Category: Dentists, Sharn

Sharn had her wisdom teeth taken out on Friday. They were starting to hurt her (the bottom ones were growing sideways into her other teeth) so we decided to just take them out. We don’t have dental insurance, so the procedure came out to just under $1000! At least it’s a once in a lifetime experience. Her face is still swollen and painful so I’ve been looking after her the best I can this weekend.

Scary things on the web

27 Mar 2007 07:13 pm | Category: Tech

I was reading today on Slashdot (yes, I’m a tech geek) about Kathy Sierra who is a prominent tech blogger and presenter who has co-authored or authored several books. Lately she’s been receiving death threats and other threatening messages/pictures on her blog and it’s caused her to fear for her life. I have to say, after reading her blog and the stuff that’s been posted there, I’d be scared too. It’s just really sad that there are such disturbed people out there who can make even blogging a life-threatening activity.

I guess the moral is to just be careful and contact the police if anything bad happens…
